From Leaf to Cup: Direct from the Source

Picture
Since 2012, Rabbit's Moon Tea Arts has been building relationships directly with farmers from tea mountains across China. In the last four years, we have come to develop a truly world class inventory of over a hundred varieties of teas from nine different tea mountain regions. It is founded on building long-standing, transparent, family-style relationships with the farmers to assure the value of tea quality and authenticity over quantity and name brand recognition.

All of the farmers we work with have their own deeply rich relationship of cultivation with the tea plant. Tea produced with such intent and drank in kind, reminds us of the importance of our own connection to the land and our relationship with each other.

As our line up is extensive, it would be exhausting to list them all here. Instead, we will share with you a taste some of the distinct hallmarks of our teas that convey the breadth and dimension of the deep field of tea producers we have come to know and love.

Whites: We source white tea aged in cakes from Fujian that are deeply rich and fuller bodied than most loose whites as they are often darkly liquored due to age and steep for many days.

Greens: We have greens from Emei-san in Sichuan Provence. These certified organic teas convey a buttery dew sweetness quintessential to the spring harvest.

Yellow: Our hand-baked yellow tea produced by the abbott of a tea temple on Mending-san in Sichuan Provence is made in such a involved process, there are few who still produce it this way.

Oolong: Our phoenix oolongs are made with great heart from a sixth generation tea farmer in Guangdong. Our tie quan yin varieties from Anhui are intimately produced at home. While our more rare varieties of Wuyi Cliff tea are produced by a father and son in traditional folk Wuyi production style now increasingly harder and harder to find.

Black (Red): We have a rich assortment of black teas from all across China, some fully oxidized by hand and sun-dried from ancient puerh varietial tea forests.

More Black (Red): We carry a unique, high grade black phoenix variety from Guangdong. As well as the original Lapsang, a renowned pine-smoked black tea called Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong from deep in the Wuyi Mountains produced in a three story tall smoke house within the borders of a protected UNESCO World Heritage site.

Puerh: Most of our puerh comes exclusively from ancient arbor, wild ecology, tea forests.

These trees are picked sustainability
each year but otherwise uncultivated and left to grow in their own full vitality. They have been documented as being anywhere from eight hundred to a thousand years old.

Our favorite tea producers in this region are an Aini tribal couple who have been working with these trees for the last 35 years. In producing this single origin, old growth tea from their back yard within their own home on a very small scale, artisinal scale, this allows the quality and attention to the production of their puerh to be made with great care and complexly flavorful.

Each tea we source has a special story to tell. That story is founded in the rich cultural heritage brought forth naturally when the tea is produced with mastery and sourced with care. May you find the story of each tea's journey from leaf to liquor as compelling as the tea itself.
